Origin
MechaGodzilla is a robot from outer space used by aliens (the Simeons, ape-faced creatures from the Third Planet of the Black Hole) to conquer the earth. When it was first unleashed, Mechagodzilla was disguised to appear as the Monster King himself. But the skin was torn by the real Godzilla, and the Simeons caused it to melt away, revealing their ambulatory super-weapon in all its steely glory. Althrough defeated by a combination of Godzilla, King Caesar and a commando-like Interpol raid that destroyed the alien base housing the robot's control center, the mechanical super-monster is later repaired by the evil aliens. Adding Titanosaurus to its side, the monstrous duo is sent on a mission to destroy Japan but was ultimately repelled by Godzilla who burried the robot in the depths of Earth.
The 1993 (from Heisei series) Super MechaGodzilla was designed by a joint American- Japanese project under the jurisdiction of the United Nations Godzilla CounterMeasures Center (UNGCC) to defend the world from Godzilla. Head scientist on this project was Dr. Leo Asimov. Flying warship Garuda was built shortly before and modified to be used as additional firepower and thrust for MechaGodzilla when docked on back. Technology used to create Super MechaGodzilla was borrowed from 23rd century cyborg Mecha King Ghidora.
No opponent has come closer than Super Mechagodzilla to bring down Godzilla to knees. Using his huge arsenal including the "Godzilla Crusher" which aim is to destroy the secondary brain in Godzilla's spine, the U.N.'s gigantic robot actually succeeded where all others had failed --- it killed Godzilla.
But the triumph was short-lived, however, as the Monster King was soon revived by an unexpected dose of radiation from Fire Rodan, who sacrified his last bits of energy in order for Godzilla to live and reign.
